Legal entity / Funding
The legal entity of the EÜK is as a registered, non-profit organisation, the ‘Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium Nordrhein-Westfalen in Straelen e.V.’. The association was founded on 10 January 1978 under the patronage of Heinrich Böll, Samuel Beckett, Max Frisch, Robert Minder and Mario Wandruszka.
The EÜK is presided over by an eleven-member board. Dr Barbara Hendricks, a former federal minister, has been President of the EÜK since 11 May 2021. She replaced Claus Sprick, a retired federal judge, who had held the office since 1990. Vice President is Dr Renate Birkenhauer.
The work of the EÜK is made financially possible above all by the commitment of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which bears the entire operating costs. In addition, the EÜK receives an annual grant from the town of Straelen, and project funding from various institutions:
The EÜK is not financed by revenue or “user fees”.
