The heart of the EÜK is its 125,000-volume library, where 35,000 reference books, a 65,000-volume literary library with works of world literature - mostly in the original and various translations - and 25,000 non-fiction books are available to guests around the clock.

The library contains reference works from almost all languages and dialects (from Afrikaans to Zulu) and from all sectors and eras. In addition to monolingual and multilingual encyclopaedias and general dictionaries, there are a large number of specialist terminological reference works: literary encyclopaedias, Bible and song concordances, technical dictionaries with themes from hunting to Christian seafaring, argot, slang, prison cant and teenage slang, theatre and opera guides, mail order catalogues in several languages, multilingual brochures on a wide variety of products, concordances on works by important authors, and much more.

In particular, the EÜK buys in reference works in digital form as well as high-priced reference works that are often unaffordable for individual translators - because Straelen should have everything that a translator could dream of.
